Cutting Your Solar Pool Blanket

Published: July 26, 2011

There are lots of pool heating systems available. Most pool owners buy these in order to keep their pool water warm. These heating systems also ensure that they enjoy their pools at any time of the day and even year. The solar blanket is one pool heating system that you can use to warm your pool. Solar blankets are very affordable, effective and can be operated very easily and cheaply.

Most of the time, solar blankets don’t fix your swimming pool exactly. This is why you will need to cut the blanket so that it fits perfectly inside your pool. However, it is very easy to cut the solar blanket so that it fits your pools size and shape. It usually comes with specific instructions on how to cut it the right way. It is important to follow these instructions so that you don’t end up damaging your solar blanket by making it too small. Making it too small will make it useless to you. So ensure that you make it the right size.

The Cutting Process

You don’t need any special equipment to cut your solar blanket. Just spread it out on your pool or your lawn. After doing so just leave it there for a couple of days. This will make it open up and reach its exact size. It will also allow it to get rid of any creases since it was folded in a box. Leaving it for a few days will expose it to sunlight and let it shrink or expand until it reaches its exact size. Make sure that the bubble side of the solar blanket is facing down. After it has reached its exact size you can cut it. Just use an ordinary scissors to cut it and make it larger than the pool. Then reassess it again after a few days to make sure that you cut it the right size. This way you won’t make it too big or too small for your pool but make it fit perfectly.

After a few days, reassess the edges of the solar blanket that you trimmed. If it is still too large for the pool just trim it again so that it fits flush against the edges of the pool. Make sure that it does not overlap to the top of the pool. This will cause the pool to move if it’s windy and get blown off the pool. So make sure that it fits securely on top of the pool.

Things To Remember

Never leave the solar blanket on your lawn for long periods of time. This is because it will cause the grass on the lawn to get burnt and damage your lawn. Also avoid dragging it over sharp edges or surfaces that are rough as this will damage it. Be sure to not damage the lining of the pool when cutting the blanket.
